The earthquake which triggered the tsunamis, had a magnitude of 8.9, making it the biggest in 40 years and the fifth strongest since 1900.

Tsunamis are a chain of fast moving waves caused by sudden trauma in the ocean, which could be the result of an earthquake or a volcanic eruption.

Tsunamis travel at great speeds across an ocean and hit the coast with tremendous amounts of energy.

But this is not the first time I beleive, There was one earlier way back in 1833.The Great Tsunami of August 26, 1883 from the Explosion of the Krakatau Volcano (“Krakatoa”) in Indonesia

A tsunami is a series of huge waves that happen after an underwater disturbance, such as an undersea earthquake. But landslides, volcanic eruptions, and meteorites can also cause tsunamis. Tsunami waves travel in all directions from the area of the disturbance, like the ripples that happen when you toss a stone into a pool of water. But tsunami waves can travel up to 450 miles per hour! It’s not until the waves get near the coast that they get really high—up to 100 feet tall. When a tsunami hits, it usually pushes large debris, including boats, hundreds of yards inland. And since a tsunami has multiple waves, it can wreak havoc for several hours after it first strikes land.

People look at a car and debris that was washed by tidal waves in Madras.
